A message from the RDGCC Membership & Marketing Committee,

In recent weeks there have been several questions and lots of discussion around the outside tournaments held by the Club each year.  Some of these tournaments have a long standing tradition at the Club having been hosted here for many years such as the Central Alberta Oilmen’s and the Central Alberta Amateur.  Others, such as the Love of Children and the Child Advocacy Centre charity events, allow the Club to support very well worthwhile causes and contribute back to our community in a meaningful way.  Many of our members also participate and support these tournaments so that they are not exclusively outside events in the strictest sense of the word.  We believe these are, in themselves, good reasons to hold these each year.

However, another important reason for these events to be at our Club is the financial contribution that they provide to the revenues of the Club.  Many of the questions arise because members are not aware of the magnitude of this contribution and they, therefore, are unable to judge the financial worth of the tournaments when they assess whether or not the tournaments provide sufficient reward in exchange for the loss of the Club for general membership play.

Therefore we think that it is important to give the membership the information they may need to have an informed opinion on outside tournament play.  In order to provide that information we have gathered the financial information for the four tournaments mentioned above as they have already been held and billed for the current year and because they either involve more than one day of interrupted use of the facilities or are held on days other than the traditional Monday tournament days.

After deducting the cost of food, beverages and Pro Shop merchandise these four tournaments contributed $169,100.00 to the operations of the Red Deer Golf and Country Club over the total of eight days that they occupied facilities at the course.  This translates into an average of $42,273 from each of these tournaments.  To put this into the perspective of an individual member; if these events were not held each of our 466 adult members (excluding juniors and privilege pack holders) would be required to pay an additional $362.00 annually. This represents a 10% increase in the Shareholder Non-Restricted membership.

We hope this information will be useful to you in determining the value of these tournaments to our Club in terms of community profile, tradition and financial strength, and to you as a member.

Dear Members,

This weather is frustrating for us all.  Heath, Chris and their crew will do whatever they can to get us on the golf course as early and often as possible.  As of this red hot moment, there is a slight chance we could play Friday and given the forecast we expect golf Saturday.

We are pleased to advise that the Red Deer Golf and Country Club has entered into a reciprocal arrangement with The Rise Golf Course in Vernon, British Columbia.  The Rise is a Fred Couples Signature Golf Course.  Red Deer Golf and Country Club members will be required to book tee times through our Professional staff only and play at a guest fee of $75.00!

Members are reminded that we will have a full-on Pasta Night this Friday and Saturday.  Sunday and Monday we will have a Thanksgiving menu both days.

The golf shop is still taking entries for our Ironman/Ironlady Sunday October 14.  That will be the last day of golf for 2018 at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club.  The entry fee is:  $70.00 which includes golf, dinner and prizes.

The Ladies Fall Banquet is Wednesday October 10.  The cost is $25.00 (the Ladies Club is covering the other $10 per person) and you can sign up by calling the Administration Office.  Please specify your dinner choice when calling:  Sirloin Steak or Chicken Coq Au Vin.  Reserve by Friday October 5, 2018.

On Friday October 12 we invite you to attend “The Definitive Simon and Garfunkel Tribute” and steak and lobster dinner.
The cost per member for the show and dinner is $75 all inclusive with refreshments extra.  Please reserve by calling 403-347-5441.  A great way to spend any remaining assessments or to gather at the course one last time with your golfing regulars.

The Red Deer Golf and Country Club has firewood (cut and split) available for $100.00 per pick-up load.  You can make arrangements by calling Heath or Chris at 403-347-1404 or by dropping out to our Turf Facility during their regular business hours.

Think sunshine!
