Our next 9 Wine & Dine is Saturday June 15. At 9 Wine and Dine’s guests play for a $45 green fee that includes a $20 food and beverage credit upstairs. As usual we will have a full-on Pasta Night in conjunction, with pasta prepared and served from the front of the house. Tee times for the 9 Wine and Dine will run from 3 – 5 pm and reservations are recommended for upstairs following. We are working on entertainment and should have an update on that early next week.
Thanks to Derrick Peterson and Riverview Insurance Solutions for their sponsorship of the Central Alberta Seniors. Nearly 100 participants enjoyed a great day of golf. Congratulations to Joe Gascon who won the tournament in a playoff with Ken Griffith. Both Red Deer Golf and Country Club members shot 1 under par 71. The weather was good and we got great comments on our food and beverage. Congratulations to Lacombe GCC member Tom Sims for his hole-in-one on #17. One interesting thing that came up in scoring was the spread on #9. Scores ranged from 3 by Ken Evanecz and Bob Lund to a 10 by an RDGCC member, a good player I heard, but I’m not sure who. How do you make a 10??? An errant drive, a couple provisionals then a terrific recovery followed by dumping one in the water. Then a skulled shot over the green to the road at the back and a dismal putting performance. That’s a lot of swings and a lot of mileage. Like I said…I’m not 100% sure who did it but at the banquet following I overheard Past RDGCC President Brian Neeland muttering that his arms were tired, and that his step count seemed unusually high for an 18 hole round.
On Monday we host a group of recreational golfers in an event called the Alberta Golf Tour. They will use a regular tee time start commencing at 9:30 am. Red Deer members can play prior to and times will start again at 12:30 pm.
Father’s Day is Sunday June 16 and the Red Deer Golf and Country Club will have features all day created with dad in mind. Reserve your table today.
In response to numerous member comments this is how we deal with geese. The Red Deer Golf and Country Club contracts with a Provincial company to humanely deal with our goose population. Since we began 4 or 5 years ago our numbers have noticeably decreased. The geese are monitored all spring and once the young have hatched our contractor gathers them up and re-locates them to a rural location. The young geese will return annually to where they learn to fly and by re-locating the RDGCC is out of the equation. Over time, and I think our smaller numbers are proof we should have fewer and fewer returnees. The parents will not fly away if their young are not able to, and they get carted off as well, so the families stay together. All in all a happy ending for birds and golfers.
Congratulations to Head Golf Professional Dean Manz and his team for being one of Canada’s Top Ten Travis Matthew retailers. Thanks to our membership for their tremendous support!
