We had another of our large poplars (on 8a) fall down on Tuesday afternoon. There was no wind or rain…it just fell. A couple years ago Ron Krulicki hit his drive on #1 into the right hand trees and as he placed his driver back in the bag one of the big boys fell where he had hit it. He still takes credit for knocking it down!! This is random stuff…but we should all be aware of our surroundings, recognize that the poplars are at the end of their life expectancy and that things like this can happen…………that is unless Kru hit one left on 8a at about 3:30 last Tuesday.
Tomorrow evening is our regular pasta night and Steven Wheeler and a jazz quartet will entertain from 7 – 9 pm. Chef Marion has added another dinner special in addition to the regular menu. If you like pasta, if you like good jazz, or if you like Steven Wheeler the RDGCC is the place to be Friday evening! Reservations are recommended.
Saturday July 25 we will reverse the 9’s all day as we host a back nine 9, Wine & Dine in the afternoon. That evening, as in all 9, Wine & Dine’s pasta will be prepared and served from the front of the house.
Next week we host 120 of the province’s best senior golfers in the Guardian Capital Alberta Senior Men’s Championship. In addition to the RDGCC honoring it’s obligation to occasionally host as an Alberta Golf Association member facility, it is a great way to show off our course. There is a media event on Monday, and participants will go back to their home clubs with good stories to tell.
Ken Frame has lined up a number of times at other private AGA golf courses where our members are able to play at no charge while we host the seniors. The courses, dates and times are posted at the golf shop.
Immediately following the AB Seniors we host our own Sun Life Central Alberta Amateur. It is certainly one of the largest and best run amateur tournaments in the province, and one all Red Deer Golf and Country Club members can be proud of. Congrats to the organizing committee and thanks to all the sponsors.
Other upcoming tournaments that members should make note of and enter right away include the Cadillac Member Guest, the Central Alberta Ladies, the Solheim Cup and the GS Communities Central Alberta Mixed.
Our August installment of the Summer Social Series is scheduled for Friday August 28. That evening Randi Boulton will entertain. Reservations have been brisk for this one, and I expect a sell-out well in advance. If you are a Randi Boulton fan make plans and book early to avoid disappointment.
Our golf course has never been in better condition. Hats off to Grounds Superintendent Heath Koch, Assistant Brigitt McKeen, Mechanic Rod Clark, and all other maintenance staff. We can make their job easier by replacing large divots and using sand and seed on all others, fixing ball marks, raking sand traps, and keeping pull carts off the mowed portion of tee boxes.
The green fee coupons provided make it easy for you to invite friends and enjoy our wonderful golf course. See you at the Club!
