Thanks to all who attended our Annual General Meeting last night.  Special thanks to retiring Board members Lynn Booth and Stu Weidenhamer for all their efforts and time on the Club’s behalf.

Welcome to new Board members Tim Gash and Phil Pattison.  Congratulations to incoming President Ellen Van Doesburg and Chung Mah who was named Vice-President at a short Board meeting following the AGM.

We would like to welcome two new shareholders.

Dan Roadhouse is a Financial Securities Advisor with Roadhouse Insurance Consultants.  Dan is married to Cristian and they have a daughter (Sofia).  Dan has been an Intermediate and Associate member for 4 or 5 years.  He plays with a reasonably friendly…but competitive group of guys and has won their Figjam Cup 3 years in a row!  Start practicing pigeons…with a share and family commitment he’ll be at least as tough in 2019.

Mike Landry was a Two-Year Trial member in 2018 and knew early on that the Red Deer Golf and Country Club was the place he wanted to play and belong.  Mike is married to Carolyn and has two children (Nathan and Chantelle).  He is well known around the Club for volunteering, sponsoring, and participating, and he should plan to be here often in 2019 the way Nathan’s game is improving.  Mike is Sales Manager and partner at Red Deer Lock and Safe.

We are now taking reservations for Valentine’s Day Thursday February 14.  The menu and prices are:

Filet Mignon w/butternut squash ravioli, peppercorn café au lait sauce, grilled asparagus and roasted heirloom tomatoes   $40

Sirloin Steak and Lobster Tail, veal jus, potato pave and grilled asparagus   $42 

Skin on Chicken breast with chipotle roasted tomato jus, squash puree, honey glazed carrots and pan-seared fingerling potatoes   $36

Skin on Kuterra Salmon with lemon caper sauce, grilled asparagus, roasted heirloom tomatoes and pan-seared fingerling potatoes   $38 

Valentine’s Day entrée will include a starter salad.


Reservations are strong for our Billy Joel/Elton John Tribute March 29.  Reserve early and avoid disappointment.  The menu and price is below:

Surf n’ Turf  $67 plus GST (gratuity extra)

Choice of Steak or Chicken, with Scallops Oscar, lemon herb roasted potatoes and seasonal vegetables.


Some more rule changes:


The time to search for a ball is reduced from 5 minutes to 3 minutes.  The time of search still starts when the player or caddie begin to search.  If the original ball is found, the provisional ball must be abandoned.

Once the search time has begun, there is NO penalty if the ball is accidentally moved during the search by anyone including the player or caddie.  Simply replace the ball in its estimated position.

The player can now go back to where the ball was last played and play a provisional ball at any time before the original ball is found.

The player must still announce that the ball about to be played is a provisional ball.  The player must use the word “provisional” or otherwise clearly indicate that he or she is playing the ball provisionally.


The relief procedure has changed for an embedded ball.

As with other relief procedures, a ball may be substituted and dropped when taking relief.  The original ball may be used, but it is not necessary.


When using the “Stroke-and-Distance Relief” option, the player must now estimate where the previous stroke was played and drop a ball within one club-length of that spot not nearer the hole.

When using the “Back-on-the-Line Relief” option or keeping the place where the ball lies between you and the hole, the player can now drop in a one club-length relief area rather than exactly on the line itself as was done previously.
