RDGCC Anniversary Logo.jpg

Dear Members,

I read a sign the other day that said: “2020 is like a mullet; all the action is in the back half”.  It looks like this may be the case.  We did nearly 7,200 rounds of golf last month, despite all the rain, and then had a highly successful Central Alberta Amateur this past weekend.  A field of 144 participants enjoyed the best that RDGCC has to offer, and all seemed very pleased with the altered format.  With the Club Championships coming up in a couple of weekends, the back half of 2020 is off to a fantastic start.

You will notice a new Club logo at the top of this email.  The Board recently approved this logo for the Club’s Centennial celebrations.  You will start to see it on various items in the golf shop, on social media and elsewhere.  Red Deer Golf & Country Club is tied for the 13th oldest club in Alberta and tied at 145th in the oldest club listing in Canada.  More information about the Centennial and club history will be forthcoming in the coming months.

RBC Dominion Securities Central Alberta Amateur

This event enjoyed 2½ days of great golf before the rains, thunder and lightning arrived to wash out the possibility of completing the competition for the final three flights.  Regardless of the weather, a very worthy champion was crowned at the 98th CAA, Cole Bergheim.  Cole is a member and came up through the Junior ranks at the Club so that we couldn’t be more proud of one of our own members lifting this trophy.

Alberta Open

Congratulations to Matthew Codd, Alex Gerrard, Carter Graf, and Cole Bergheim for making the cut at the 2020 Alberta Open played last week at Wolf Creek.  Low Gross honours for the RDGCC contingent go to Matthew, who ended up T20.

Olds Open

We had several members participate in the Olds Men’s Open in June.  Peter Innes, ended up second, losing in a three-hole playoff.  Well done, Peter and all those who competed in this event.

Focus Groups

We have member focus groups taking place tomorrow.  These sessions are meant to provide the opportunity to help direct the future of your Club.  To date, we have had no response from anyone in the 30 and under age group or from the 41-50 age group.  Please take part in the future of the Club by taking the time to have your voice heard.  Contact me at by the end of day today to book your place in the sessions tomorrow.
