Our newest shareholder is Ian Hollingshead.  Ian’s father was a long time member here, and Ian played as a Junior member.  He is happy to follow in his father’s footsteps and looks forward to re-connecting with old friends, and to many years of fun and fellowship at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club.  Ian is a Pharmacist at Mountview Drugs.  Welcome!!

Congratulations to Wendy Wiltzen who aced #2 this morning while golfing with Ellen Van Doesburg, Sharon Peart and Laurel Goodacre.  Wendy hit her 9 wood to a tough white pin on the middle level.  It was Wendy’s third hole-in-one which puts her 1 ahead of Tim in that department…but who’s counting!?!?

Our Club Championship weekend is this Saturday and Sunday.  Dean is still taking some last minute entries in the golf shop.  There is a fun horse race Saturday and Randi Boulton performing upstairs following.  All members are invited to join in the fun.  There will be food and drink specials all weekend.  Chair Chung Mah and his committee have done good work.

Friday September 7 we host the Cadillac Member Guest.  Entries are being taken at the Administration Office (email ) at a cost of $350.00 per 2 person team.  Thanks to the Postma Group for coming on board as meal sponsor.  This year in addition to our draws for out of town golf at other Alberta privates we will draw from the guests for 2 free memberships for the balance of the season at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club.

The Central Alberta golf scene is a busy one each summer.  We have a number of well run golf courses who like us, host a number of charity fund raisers.  As an employee and witness to a lot of them I’d like to raise my glass and acknowledge and sincerely thank all our Red Deer Golf and Country Club members that volunteer, sponsor and participate in those tournaments.  Our members are THE BEST!  Your enthusiasm, leadership, and support makes every event better and is very much appreciated.  Things simply would not happen without our Red Deer Golf and Country Club members’ involvement.

On Friday August 31 Executive Chef Ryan Poole and his team will do features off the BBQ.  One such feature will be grilled lamb loin with dark cherry jus at $36.00 including a starter salad.  There will be other BBQ features that night.

Did you know we also offer homemade pies?  Try one next meal…they have been a popular addition.

Red Deer Golf and Country Club Superintendent Heath Koch reminds all members that if your divot is replaceable that is the best solution to healthy turf.  Our sand and seed is a nice supplement but not nearly as effective as carefully replacing the divot.  Thanks for your cooperation, divot replacement, ball mark repair, and sand and seed help us all.

On the long weekend we are relaxing Restricted Intermediate and Adult Senior member restrictions.  Those groups can book times and commence play at 1 pm all 3 days.

Our next 9 Wine and Dine is Sunday September 2.  There will be a full-on Pasta Night in conjunction.

Thanks to Ray Hulyk and Harry Leparneaux for organizing a Senior Men’s Wind-Up scheduled for Tuesday September 25.  Details will follow…but Senior’s should plan on playing and can register in the golf shop.

Mark the date!!  Friday October 12 we will have a buffet dinner and show billed as “The Definitive Simon and Garfunkel Tribute”. Cocktails at 6 pm, Dinner at 7 and the show commencing at 8 or 8:15 pm.  I have heard they are very good…I know it’ll be an entertaining evening. $75 per person includes a buffet and show.  See you there!
