August 1, 2019

This past week has been hard on our greens with our turf crew repairing temper marks (divots from hitting balls off greens) at least 3 times.  Please note that this behaviour will not be tolerated and suspensions will be given out to anyone caught damaging the golf course.

We host a private function today that will close the upstairs of the clubhouse from 12 – 4 pm.

One of the best things about the Red Deer Golf and Country Club is that we are family-friendly.  We are proud to have parents, grandparents and in some cases great grandparents enjoying this wonderful facility.  One such family is the Hough’s.  Currently Al, Janice and their son Jared are all members.  Janice is the bill payer and month after month has paid the $1.00 hole-in-one assessments.   She no doubt wondered to this point how the Hough’s could be shut out in that department.  Jared (not our most accurate member) and Al (bad knees and poor concentration) had so far been skunked.  Yesterday afternoon Janice took things into her own hands (as the real athlete in the family) and knocked it in for a 1 on hole #2.  Congratulations Janice!  Here’s hoping those other two join you in our H-I-O club in the near future.

This weekend is our RBC Wealth Management Central Alberta Amateur.  166 participants in our 97th Annual!  The course will be closed to regular play Saturday and Sunday and will re-open Monday at 4 pm.

Next Thursday August 8 we host a small group with Cannacord Capital who tee off at 10 am, and have a separate private function in 1/2 of the clubhouse from 2 – 4 pm.

Congratulations to the organizers of the Red Deer Golf and Country Club Ladies Invitational which is scheduled for Saturday August 10.  Entries have exceeded the 2018 total…but there is still limited space available.  You can get entry forms in the ladies locker room and at the Administration Office.

On Sunday August 11 we host a private function in the dining room from 11 – 2 pm.

Monday August 12 we have a 9 am shotgun start as we host the RBC Scramble Regional Finals.  One lucky team will earn a trip to Cabot Links.

The Red Deer Minor Hockey Association tournament goes Monday August 19 with a reception Sunday evening.  This tournament is always a sell-out and includes the Sunday reception, on-course and team prizes, with a banquet following play.  Email Ken Frame at kwframe@shaw.ca if you are interested in playing as there are still a few single player spots available.  RDMHA is something the entire community takes pride in and we are happy they chose us to host this fundraiser.

Best of luck to Ken Griffith in today’s final round at the Alberta Senior Men’s Championship at the Derrick Golf and Winter Club in Edmonton.  Ken is one shot back after rounds of 68-74.  Congratulations to Grant Lee and Merv Dusyk who made the final cut and will play today as well.
