The Red Deer Golf and Country Club opened for play yesterday. President Lynn Booth teed off the year with a drive straight down the middle, and after par on one, and dropping a 6′ birdie putt on number 2, finished with a net 72. Bravo!!
The round wasn’t quite as smooth for the second group. On number one all made bogeys or better but things got busy on #2. Past President Phil Avram was politely standing on the path waiting and watching as his playing partner teed off. The golfer (who will remain nameless) swung and the next thing Phil knew a ball whacked off his shin and pant legs, careened off the garbage can and flew deep into the bush. For the rest of the round the foursome was on edge and wary of the man with the shanks (he hit the same shot 3 or 4 more times), and more concerned with personal safety than socializing. In any event a good time was had by all and our golf course is in terrific Spring condition.
Red Deer Golf and Country Club members BEWARE!! If Board member Dwayne Stolz is on the driving range when you’re hitting balls, it’s safest if you stay on his left!
Tonight is our Annual Opening Reception starting at 5 pm. It is a chance for our Board of Directors to thank the membership for their patronage, and a night of fellowship and good will. See you there!
