Well we certainly haven’t had much of a winter to speak of and some vary different conditions throughout the province. There is very little snow remaining in Calgary if any and lots of bare turf. Here in Red Deer we are still completely snow covered at the course. Today I checked a few greens and they had between a foot and 8 inches of snow remaining. I saw very little ice to speak of but that is like finding a needle in a hay stack with this much cover. Keep your fingers crossed that we keep our cover and that the temps don’t warm up too much too quickly. The crew remaining for the winter has done a fantastic job working with Sonia and Brigitt to rid our course of a huge amount of Black Knot disease. This is the best time to remove the infected branches and burn them. The summer months is when the disease is active and is easily spread to surrounding trees. A huge thank you to them for their very hard work this winter. With the weather remaining warm we will continue the process.
I will keep everyone up to date on how things are progressing over the next couple months leading up to a early great opening we hope!
