I am pleased to announce that Robyn Amell has agreed to join us as Food Services and Clubhouse Manager. Robyn has spent the last six years in various positions with increasing responsibilities at the Sheraton Hotel. She will start at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club in mid-July. We are pleased she has chosen to join our team, and I know she is excited to meet the membership and get started in her new position.
The Clubhouse will be closed this Saturday at 2 pm as we set up for a wedding. The BBQ will be available until 5 pm and a limited menu offered in the Men’s Lounge. The driving range will be closed Saturday from 4:15 pm – 6:30 pm as guests are shuttled to and from 8a.
Wednesday July 01 is Canada Day. All members driving to the RDGCC that day will need a City of Red Deer Parking Pass. Passes are available for pick up from the Administration Office.
Our Canada Day Celebration at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club is all set. We start the day with an 8:30 am shotgun that is open to all categories of membership.
Then at 4 pm is our Canada Day Par 3 Shotgun. Guests play for $25.00 with all 18 holes set as Par 3’s. Following golf hotdogs, burgers, etc. are available at Legacy Lane. Wooden Nickle entertains following the golf and many participants stay to view the City of Red Deer fireworks. Plenty of great music and fellowship.
The Clubhouse is open for regular dining that day with reservations recommended.
The Guardian Capital Alberta Senior Men’s Championship will be held at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club July 28-30. Our golf course is in terrific condition…what a great way to show it off!
Better news is that we have a number of RDGCC members that have qualified and will be participating. Congratulations and good luck to Dale Bingham, Eric Brodie, Pete Duncan, Merv Dusyk, Ken Evanecz, Tim Gyori, Boman Husted, Len Powell, and Tom Skinner. Let’s hope for good weather, close competition and an RDGCC champion!
More good news and great golf for Carter Graf. Carter has been selected to the Canadian Junior Golf Association’s Team Canada and will compete at the 2015 Euro Junior Cup at St. Andrews, Scotland in late July. Golfers from Canada, the United States, and Scotland will compete in 3 days of match play competition. Way to go Carter!!
We have a special night planned in the Clubhouse on Friday July 24. Steven Wheeler (one of Ken’s ball shop supervisors) is part of a jazz trio (let’s call them the Dreamers) and will entertain that evening in the Clubhouse. Steven is a tough negotiator. When I asked the cost he suggested $1,000 each and a $500 bar tab. Yep…the Dreamers fits nicely.
Lightning struck three times at the Club this week! Two impressive rounds by Wynne Dempster (76) and Ralph Ward (81). One of them shot his age for the first time, and the other a terrific net 65 with 2 double bogies. I’ll leave it to those reading this to figure out which was which! Shooting your age is something every golfer hopes for.
Finally Joe Gascon aced our 15th hole earlier this afternoon. He feathered in a 24 degree hybrid. Nice shot Joe!! No doubt another sub-par round for one of our top golfers.
