The Guardian Capital Alberta Senior Men’s Championship was a big success. 120 participants from across Alberta took part, and all were unanimous in their praise of the Red Deer Golf and Country Club. Heath had the golf course in terrific condition, and we exceeded expectations in food and beverage.
What really set the event apart was the terrific job Barclay White and Ken Frame did lining up and coordinating our RDGCC member volunteers. The AGA don’t get that response at many other clubs and the participants loved it. Many of them commented to me what a nice touch it was, and how lucky we are to have a membership that cares enough to be involved. Thanks to Barclay, Ken and all the volunteers!!
Speaking with Barclay this morning he wanted to personally thank his crew of volunteers. Enthusiastic, willing, and proud were words he used often. Bravo!
We had 9 members participating and three (Tom Skinner – 6, Eric Brodie – 8, and Merv Dusyk – 10) finished in the top 10.
This weekend is the 93rd Sun Life Central Alberta Amateur. The tournament is one of the largest and best run amateur events in the province. Committee Chairs Jim McPherson, Matt Brown, and John Young have done all they can to make this year’s tournament the best yet! Our golf course is great, and the forecast looks promising.
Why not take the time to come watch the horse race Sunday night or Monday’s final round. 172 participants are in for a great weekend.
The Cadillac Member Guest is sold out with 128 participants. The tournament tees off Friday August 07. Thanks to Cadillac and Care Industries for their support of this showcase tournament.
The Central Alberta Ladies tournament is set for Saturday August 08. I believe there may be limited space available in this…your contact is Event Chair Diane Mulder.
Our next 9, Wine and Dine is Saturday August 22.
The final installment of the Summer Social Series presented by Procom Insurance is Friday August 28 and features Randi Boulton and her band. This event is very near a sell-out so act quickly if you plan on attending.
RDGCC member Chandler McDowell is having a great year. He will be on Team Alberta at the Western Canadian Summer Games in Fort McMurray early next month. Chandler also finished 4th in the Alberta Junior Championship and qualified for the Canadian Juniors at the Summerlea Golf & Country Club in Montreal.
Please note that there is no pasta night tonight and we are not taking any more reservations. The Clubhouse will be busy with the Sun Life C.A.A. Sponsor night and practice round participants. Tables will be available on a first come first served basis.
We are into the home stretch of the 2015 golfing year. I encourage all of you to invite friends and visit us often at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club. RDGCC members have a lot to be proud of.
