A warm welcome to Robyn Amell.  Today is Robyn’s first day as our new Food Services and Clubhouse Manager.  She and Rachel will be sharing the load until Rachel returns to school mid-August.

We also introduce our new menu today!  It is always refreshing to add some new selections part way through our year.

We are fortunate to have lined up reciprocal times at other private facilities when we are hosting the Guardian Capital Alberta Seniors.  Ken has done well lining this up, and will post the Clubs, and the process for booking tee times soon.

Congratulations to Sharon Peart and Kyle Morrison for winning the Club Championship over the weekend.  Sharon won for the 12th time, which I think deserves special notice.  Kyle’s win took 5 extra holes as Rob McWilliam had a late charge and forced the playoff.

The golf ball is 1.68 inches in diameter.  The width of the start of each fairway at the beautiful Red Deer Golf and Country Club is roughly 50 yards or 1800 inches.  Add the cart paths and first cut of rough and you conservatively have 2000 inches of empty air in which to hit your drive.

The diameter of the support for a ball washer is roughly 3 inches.

Last Thursday I was passing by the eleventh tee and 3 guys were giving it pretty good to Jim Slipp for nailing the ball washer with his drive.  Not a shining moment, although Jim did get the last laugh when he made a bogey.

#12 was uneventful, but imagine the laughter when on #13 he did it again!  This time his ball careened off the washer hard enough to clear the bushes and ended up on the alternate tee on 11.

Somehow Jim went over, through or around that mess and ended up tapping in for another 5.

Nobody…and I mean nobody…could try and hit two ball washers in three holes while taking a full swing and attempting to hit the fairway.  Surely higher odds than 6-49!!

Speaking of rare golf accomplishments…this time of the other variety…Congratulations to Joey Engert for his ace on #17 during the Club Championship last weekend.  What is so special about a 1 on #17??  It is the third time he has aced the same hole!
