Please open the link below to view our Sunday dining menus for January 13 and 20.  In order to proceed with Sunday dining we must have at least 20 reserved by Friday at 2 pm.  Sunday dining is a terrific way to introduce friends and family to the Red Deer Golf and Country Club in a relaxed setting with well priced and top quality food and drinks.  We encourage you to give us a try and remind you that all meals billed to Club accounts go against the food and beverage assessment.

Executive Chef Ryan Poole is planning a romantic Valentine’s Day menu for Thursday February 14.  Tell your special someone to save the date and book your table.  We will offer details as soon as the menu is complete.

We are also pleased to announce that we will host a Billy Joel / Elton John Tribute on Friday March 29.  The cost will be $75.00 per person including dinner, the show, and GST.  Gratuity extra.  Simon and Garfunkel sold out last October and people loved it.  I expect an early sell-out for Billy and Elton as well.

A personal observation from booking off-season golf for members and myself is that the price of golf in the U.S. is going up…and that the availability of tee times is going down.  Our members who purchased Troon Cards in advance were wise to do so.  Troon have a number of top quality courses throughout the U.S. and our members that take advantage of them usually repeat if they are heading south.  I say this because the Red Deer Golf and Country Club needs to sell 20 annually to qualify and fell just short in 2018.  If we don’t hit 20 in October 2019 we will not be allowed to participate.  The RDGCC simply takes names and facilitates the sale.  We hope it continues to be a service our members take advantage of.

Dean Manz, Kirk Evans and Chris Melbourne are at the shop daily.  We hope you drop out and take a look at new stock as it arrives and get up to date on all the new equipment.  It’s an exciting year as Taylor Made, Callaway, Ping, and Titleist have all launched new product and the Red Deer Golf and Country Club professional staff are up to date and ready to fit.

It was fun watching the Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua last week.  The new rules were obvious with golfers putting with the flag stick in, golfers fixing spike marks, and taking drops from knee height.  The rules have been modified to make the game faster and more enjoyable.  Rather than bore you with all of the changes in one email I’ll add one or two to each of my messages and spread the pain throughout the off-season.

1.  The ball must be dropped straight down from knee height.

2.  The relief area is where a player must drop a ball when taking relief under a rule.  The relief area is a defined area that is equal to the length of the longest club carried by a player, other than a putter.  No matter what club is used to measure, the ball must come to rest within the longest club, other than the putter.  Using a putter or sand wedge will not provide a smaller relief area.

Stay tuned and keep reading for more updates and future Club messages.  The Red Deer Golf and Country Club is a great place to play and belong.  Be proud!

Think sunshine!
