The GS Communities Central Alberta Mixed Tournament will be held Saturday August 23 and still has space available.  This tournament is a 4-person shamble with teams comprised of 2 adult females and 2 adult males.  This field is limited to the first 25 4-person teams signed up.  Please call the golf shop for details and to register.

Our Junior Club Championship goes Wednesday and Thursday August 20 and 21.  It should be a great event!

Speaking of Juniors RDGCC member Chandler McDowell recently won the Alberta Golf Association’s Bantam Championship.  Chandler shot 72-71 to win by a single shot at the Wintergreen Golf and Country Club.  Brothers Carter and Logan Graf also represented us at the event with Carter medaling 78-81 to finish 9th.  Chandler is 14 years old, Carter 13 and Logan 10.  Way to go boys!!

The Clubhouse will be closed Sunday August 24 from 4 pm as we host the Red Deer Minor Hockey Association Social in conjunction with their tournament Monday August 25.

Wednesday August 27 our Men’s Night will have a shotgun start at 2 pm and follow a “Battle of Alberta” format.  Golfers will choose to support the Oilers or Flames and listen to Duane Sutter and Rich Preston following the golf.  All regular Men’s Night competitions will be on as usual.  There will be an optional buffet following play at $25.00 per person.

Yesterday we had a film crew from Sportsnet at the RDGCC.  They filmed a couple of the holes for use on one of Ron MacLean’s hometown Hockey Community Celebration segments Sunday evenings this fall/winter.  The weather was great so we look forward to the finished product.  I understand Terry and Linda Codd played through the film crew on number 4…that may be just the thing to launch new careers for the two of them!!

At our Board meeting last night it was decided to offer all adult members 2 discounted green fee coupons for use in the 2014 season.  The coupons will be printed ASAP and available at the Administration desk Monday August 25.  At our meetings we overlook the 9th green and get to creep on members and guests as they finish their 9’s.  A couple of positives we noticed.  One was how nice it is to see our young juniors remove their headwear and shake hands following their round.  Secondly, Al and Chung Mah taking the time to fix multiple ball marks as they left the green.  Our members respect each other and our course!

Red Deer Golf and Country Club members have a lot to be thankful for.  A great golf course, well-groomed on a terrific piece of property, and plenty of available tee times with an exemplary pace of play.  We quite often will see a couple of deer on any given round, or pelicans scanning the Red Deer River.  We have a first class Clubhouse, good food and drink, and enthusiastic young servers anxious to please.  Our golf shop is well merchandised and our professional staff up to speed on the latest equipment and teaching innovations.  Our members are our best salesmen.  We hope you enjoy and appreciate everything we offer, and recommend us to your friends and business associates.

Members are reminded of the Red Deer is Ready Rally this Friday downtown on Ross Street from 11:30 – 3:30 pm.  Wear red and join the party in support of our bid to host the 2019 Canada Winter Games.
